8 Day Budget Safari
by J de Jong

It would have been helpful if we knew how "budget" the safari would really be. We camp all the time (roughing it) but this experience taught us a lesson about camping in Africa!

Safari Operator PerformanceThe driver was excellent! We saw all the animals we could hope to see in Massai Mara.
The food was not very good, nothing to drink except water, no refrigeration, no lights at night, the tent was on a slope, Amboseli camp was in dirt, etc.
The website doesn't really give you the whole picture. There are no pictures of Amboseli campsite, no details telling you that there is no refrigeration, electricity, no decent chairs to sit in.
All the testimonials say how great everything is, and yet talking to other travellers, we weren't the only people disappointed in the facilities provided.
AccommodationWe stayed in tents and it was Ok in Massai Mara but horrible in Amboseli.
WildlifeWe saw the Big Five, and everything else you could imagine.
The highlights were the Lions feeding their cubs and eating water buffalo.
Tips and AdviceDon't do a budget safari. We wished we would have done 4 days in Massai Mara in lodges or luxury tents, and skipped the other parks. Everything we wanted to see we saw in Massai Mara. The other parks had lots of trees and animals were hard to spot.
