Simeon went on a Southern Africa adventure trip and one of the places he visited was the Chobe Botswana Game reserve which was the place where he says his African vacation really started.

Accommodation:

The Muchenje Safari lodge accommodates a maximum of twenty guests in twin bedded thatched chalets all with en-suite facilities and they have a great view from the balcony over the escarpment. Simeon says that the lodge managers, Peter and Sandy..."focused on creating an intimate, warm, extended family environment." which really added to the success of their stay.

This Chobe Botswana trip report could help you with your own safari vacation planning because it contains highlights, tips and recommendations from somebody who has already been there

Highlights:

The herds of various animals that the Chobe river plays host to such as hippo, giraffe, zebra, impala wildebeest and of course the elephants.

The image that sticks in Simeons mind is of the playfulness of the elephants as they would splash water on each other and roll around in the mud with obvious enjoyment.

Another highlight were the lion sightings all on one day - A lioness protecting a wildebeest kill and two male lions with huge manes, a pack of five lioness and three adorable cubs.

A tour of the local village to see what living in rural Africa is really like for the inhabitants. Bizarrely many of the villagers had cellphones but no electricity or running water.

Chobe Botswana Tips & Recommendations:

  • Going on a cruise of the river on one of the boats available can be a great experience. They are able to come relatively close to the animals quenching their thirst along the banks and you will be able to see crocodiles and hippos in their natural habitat.

  • If you are planning a trip to Chobe Botswana with your own vehicle make sure that it is a 4x4. You won't be allowed to go in using anything else and even if you could the chances of getting stuck on the dirt roads are not that remote.
