Bob spent three weeks on vacation in Etosha Namibia and South Africa and managed to see a tremendous amount of wildlife around the waterholes in the Park and observe some animal behaviour like a lion hunt and kill that not many people have seen. Accommodation:Namutoni Fort is a stunning white complex built at the beginning of the 20th century along with several other outposts for the original purpose of preventing the spread of anthrax out of Angola but is now used to house tourists in comfortable rooms. Okakuejo camp where the rooms had two large double beds, a group of chairs around a small table, a large bathroom, and air-conditioning. Trip HighlightsThe floodlit waterhole at Namutoni Fort is an excellent place to watch the wildlife because they travel from all around to drink there as other water sources in the area are scarce. So if you sit at this waterhole the animals come to you instead of you going out to find them which makes a nice change. Spotted a herd of 12 elephant with young that began frolicking in the water and spraying it onto their backs and flanks after which they proceeded to dust themselves to protect them from the harsh sun and parasites. At Twee Palms waterhole, Bob and his companions were lucky enough to see a lion lounging around in the sun and keeping all the other animals away from drinking. After a few hours they drove to another waterhole and on the way they came across two lions resting under a bush right next to the road. Very lucky indeed. A group of about 30 elephant came down to drink at the Okakuejo water hole and as they were enjoying themselves in the water all the other animals mysteriously disappeared because shortly afterwards three lions appeared to take their evening drink. The lions kept a wary eye on the elephants who don't have much to fear from the cats because of their huge size. Eight black rhinos drinking at the waterhole which is an incredibly rare spectacle. They normally don't congregate groups with the bulls being loners and the single cows normally travelling with their calves. Seeing one black rhino is normally an achievement, but eight!! Incredible. Three lioness coming down to the water hole for their morning drink ambush a hapless springbok and settle down to eat while the male lion arrived a short while later and received nothing. Many people visit national parks in Africa for years and never see something like this. Etosha Namibia Tips & Recommendations:
