The people we met were all very friendly, no exceptions, and we were always greeted by folk where ever we went with a smile and a "jambo". The wildlife was of course incredible as one expected.

Safari Operator Performance

We booked it through Somak, the safari company was Warner safaris.

The company was all that we expected, there were no hitches at all.

Accommodation

Our first stop from Arusha was at the Serena lodge at Ngorongoro crater. This lodge was really nice with very good food and service, the rooms were excellent too.

Next we moved to the Serengeti, where we stayed in the Serena lodge, right in the middle of the Serengeti! Here the accommodation was very good but the food and service was not as good as the previous lodge.

Our last port of call was to the Serena lodge at Lake Manyara. The lodge was ok, about the same as in the Serengeti but the park was disappointing due to the fact that it is woody with large old trees making wildlife observations very limited. We had only one afternoon here so it was ok.

Wildlife

What was so exciting was the nearness to very many of the animals, it was as if we did not exist.

The highlights were so many that it is difficult to choose one, but we did see the big five.

Tips and Advice

Anyone planning a safari to this part of Tanzania MUST visit the Ngorongoro Crater and stay as long as possible. There you will find all the animals that are in Tanzania.

The Serengeti again must be seen to really appreciate how vast this area really is and animal sightings are really something.

Also just remember to take plenty of one dollar bills with you, as everyone expects a $ tip for whatever they do for you. Other than that there is very little to spend your money on unless you want to spend it sitting in the bar all the time.

    Ngorongoro Crater

Please note that there are NO giraffes or impalas in the crater. The review says to go to Ngorongoro because it has all the Tanzanian wildlife. Just wanted to point that out. Also, you will not see infant elephants in the crater. Only elephants you will see there are transient males.
