Jan and May came all the way from Norway for this Kruger National Park tour and they had some idea of what to expect because this was their second visit in as many years. They just can't stay away.

Accommodation:

Maroela tented campsite in the central region of the Kruger Park. The tents stand on raised wooden platforms and have built in mosquito netting  to sleep two.

Trip Highlights:

A group of lions within the first hour of a morning game drive. Yep, those 4:30 am wake-up calls are worth it.

While supper was on the boil, a hyena walked up to the fence and sat down not 10 metres away from where May was sitting, showing no fear at all. It was attracted by the smell of cooking and came back periodically after that to see if there was anything for it to eat.

At one stage there was a loud roar right outside the camp and everyone thought it was a lion but the guide led them to the fence to reveal a group of elephants barely visible in the darkness, but easy enough to hear.

Went on a walk through the bushveld and managed to spot two cheetah even though they were far away in the distance and found a dung beetle rolling a big ball of elephant dung in front of it. Didn't see much but still a great experience to be able to walk around in the Kruger national park.

Something that people definitely don't see every day on a Kruger National Park tour park is a python, but Jan and May were able to see one cross the road. How lucky can you get?

Serengeti Tanzania Tips & Recommendations:

  •  When going on a group safari to the Kruger, be considerate to your fellow travellers by making sure you are ready to go on the game drive as early as possible in the morning. The earlier you go out the more chance you have to see something.

  • Popular opinion is that you are able to see more animals in the park during the winter months because it is dryer so they tend to congregate around the waterholes but this is not always the case. Summer animal sightings can be very good too.

  • A Kruger National Park tour is not only about the big game. There are a multitude of insects and birds that can be just as interesting if you take the time to look and find out more.
