Elephant Back Safari Top Four
An elephant back safari is a
unique experience that you will remember for the rest of your life.
There is nothing else quite like
riding on the back of an elephant through the wilds of Africa. One big advantage
is that the other wildlife doesn't discriminate between you and your elephant
which means you can get relatively close to them without causing alarm.
The following are four of the
best places to go on an elephant back safari in Africa...
Abu Camp, Okavango
Delta, Botswana
The pinnacle of elephant back
safaris, Abu camp offers a three night safari for a maximum of twelve people in
the beautiful surroundings of the Okavango Delta.
The accommodation is top notch in
stylish permanent tents each with its own deck overlooking a lagoon. The cuisine
is five star prepared by a master chef and accompanied by the finest of wines.
This is luxury personified and highly recommended.
Kapama Private Reserve,
South Africa
Situated near the Kruger National
Park, this is one of the only South African lodges offering elephant back
safaris to guests.
You can take a two hour trip
through big five country in the reserve. Or if you would like to spend some more
time with these gentle giants you can take advantage of a four day interactive
experience with the herd.
The Elephant Company,
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Half day elephant rides at
Nakavango estates about 10km from the town. Six elephants provide the
transportation for a maximum of ten clients and children aged four and above are
welcome.
The company will collect and
return you to your hotel in the early morning or the afternoon.
Elephant Camp, Victoria
Falls, Zimbabwe
There are two
ways to enjoy the elephant safaris provided by Wild Horizons at their camp
situated 26 km from the Victoria falls: You can stay overnight to interact with
the elephants by riding, washing and feeding your allocated animal or you can
enjoy a 60-90 minute ride after collection from your hotel.
Children aged
five and above are welcome.
