Thanks again for your site's help in making me realize Africa was within reach for someone like me trying to arrange via the internet. We had a great time on our safari! We loved South Africa!
Safari Operator
It was difficult to find a tour operator that wasn't wildly expensive. By spending hours on the Internet, when I found your African Safari Journals site as well, I found African Budget Safaris.com.My colleagues at work laughed at me when I said I might use that site. SA is so far away from California that they thought I would get trapped into some nasty horrible hut with lions pacing outside.
I work at a University hospital and some physicians I know have gone on Safaris and spent $20,000 for their few weeks in the bush. No way could I afford that!!
It turned out wonderful! I really recommend that site to many. The prices were affordable, the tours were just as advertised, and everything was comfortable and pleasant.
The associated guides (Livingstone Trails) were professional yet wonderfully down to earth in what I have come to see is a South African trait.
Accommodation
We stayed at the Timbavati Safari Lodge, 20 minutes outside of the Orpen gate to Kruger. Perfect place. Colorful huts, very comfortable, great staff, great evening meals, lovely outside bar, small pool to cool off.And, as we walked to our hut the first evening, there were a family of warthogs having their grass dinner just a few feet away! It was like I stepped into Lion King. Hakuna Matada!
Wildlife
The drives through Kruger were serious. 8-10 hours per day. For some folks, that might be a bit much but the point of the trip was to see Kruger and that is what we did.Seeing giraffes fighting was special.
We saw all the animals except the Leopard. We even went on a night drive with a ranger to see one but did not. Ah... that is a reason to return to Africa.
Photography
My husband took 1300 photos. He loved your wildlife photography e-book and learned a lot of things. We used some of your suggestions.We have fantastic photos - unbelievable. I made a Windows Movie with many of them and set it to African music. People ask us to show them the movie again and again.
General
I really really loved Africa! I want to go back! I am a huge fan of Alexander McCall Smith who writes those No 1 Ladies Detective Agency books that take place in Botswana. The latest one has the lady detective going on Safari. I dream of doing that.It takes 24 hours to get to SA with plane stops and all, unless you can afford the more expensive direct routes on South Africa Airways. We cashed in miles on American which is a partner with British Airways.
Cheap flights to South Africa...
Nearly eveything was perfect. I hope that the World Cup shows the world what a great place SA is.
I have great hope for the people and the country and the continent to grow and prosper. Thanks for your e-book and response to e-mail that helped us to have this great trip.
